Building a bathroom, part one

The project begins!
Daddy drove up yesterday and we celebrated his arrival with a three-hour vacation in Home Depot!  When they closed, we decided we'd better head back on home, and begin the work.
We're adding a half bath off the family room/den area.  There was already a utility closet there, with the washing machine and dryer, so the plan was simple: split the space into two rooms: one laundry room, and one half/bath!
Not sure it turned out as simple as we were planning, but it's coming along.  Here's what's going on so far.

Beginning to take apart the utility closet...goodbye panels!

Looking emptier...

So, we scraped up a minimum of 3 levels of tacky linoleum from the floor...here are some of the patterns we found...maybe one per decade??

I don't know if this one was ever pretty...

This one might have been the oldest, it was really brittle.

Big pile of the panels we* ripped out. (*we meaning Dad and Ricardo.  I helped carry them outside)

This was a minimum 5-shirt day.  Did I mention it's been in the 90's here?

We finished the day with dinner and a birthday party.  My niece Dara Yarizel turns 5 today.  Why yes, that is a cupcake tower.  With homemade strawberry-heart cupcakes in chocolate and vanilla.  My other contribution to the day.

Presents!

Right now I'm hanging out with my niece and nephew while their parents go shopping. Dad and Ricardo are still working (gotta love those guys!)--So I'm off to watch Madagascar with two of the cutest and most loving kids you'll ever meet!

Look for day 2 pictures tomorrow!
